Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut

Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey

Born in Düsseldorf, Germany on July 9, 1960 Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut is Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey since 01.09.2020. He completed his History and German Philology training in 1987 and received his Ph.D. in History. Meyer-Landrut, who started as an Attaché at the Foreign Service Academy between 1987 and 1989, also served as Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany between 1989 and 1990, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Austria-Vienna between 1990 and 1993, the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union between 1993 and 1995, Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany between 1995 and 1999, Spokesperson of the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union between 1999 and 2002, Spokesperson of the President of the European Convention, Valery Giscard d’Estaing between 2002 and 2003, Head of the EU Policy Division, Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany between 2003 and 2006, Deputy Director General for European Affairs, Federal Chancellery between 2006 and 2011,  Director General for European Affairs, Federal Chancellery between 2011 and 2015, German Ambassador to France and Monaco between 2015 and 2020. Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut is married and has four children.
