Prof. Dr. Gülgün Yener

Head of Department of Cosmetology, İstanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy

Prof Dr Gülgün Yener graduated from Üsküdar American Academy in 1981, and Istanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1985. Within the year, she became a Research Assistant at the Department of Pharmaceuticals Technology. 

She received doctoral degree with her doctoral dissertation “Drug Adsorption in Plastic Vessels” in 1990. 

She made research on “Transmission of Sun-Protection Materials Through Skin” at Welsh School of Pharmacy at Cardiff, England for 4 months in 1996, and was granted Royal Society scholarship via TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey).  

She was titled as Assistant Professor in 1992, Associate Professor in 1998, and Professor in 2004. She has been the Head of Department of Cosmetology of Istanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy since 2001. She was a Member of the Board of Faculty and Board of Directors of Istanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy. She was a Member of  Board of  Directors of  Istanbul University Institute of Medical Sciences.

She is the author of more than fifty papers and compilations including thirty international. Her published works were cited by around three hundred authors in peer-reviewed journals.

Her focal areas are transcutaneous movement, transdermal topical system formulations, efficacy tests for sun protection, anti-ageing and haircare products, micro-nanoparticle systems, anti-inflammatories. 

She is one of the researchers of TÜBİTAK science project titled “Preparation of Selective Cyclooxigenase-2 (COX-2) Inhibitor Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug Celecoxib Nanoparticles and Examination of their Anti-Cancer Effect”.

She co-authored four science books. She gives seminars at training programs organized by cosmetology trade associations. She has advised for ten master’s theses and two doctoral dissertations. She is married with three kids.
